A Brief History of Me

Hi!
I can’t wait to tell you about myself and my family! So, let’s jump right in. My name is Becky Larsen and I am the author of The Whispering Leaf.
I am currently a stay at home mom with 2 amazing boys! Before we adopted them, I was a microbiologist. I have my Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology with a Minor in Chemistry, and a Master’s Degree in Food Science with an emphasis in Food Microbiology – think food safety and probiotic development. I worked as a research scientist for many years before we were able to start a family. It was very rewarding and I loved it! Basically, this means I am a major science nerd!
But that’s ok because I found an equally nerdy guy and married him!
My husband’s name is Jeron and we have been married for almost 9 years. He has Degrees in Biochemistry and Cell Biology and works as a Cell Culture Scientist. I seriously can’t even remember a time of my life without him in it! But at the same time, I can’t believe it’s been so long! Can anyone else relate to this?!?! He is the BEST! The list of his good traits goes on forever and ever! But some of my favorite things about him are that he is ALWAYS happy, majorly optimistic, and super funny! And to top it all off, he is dang good-looking!

We have 2 little boys that are our whole world. We got them both through adoption, but very different paths, and both the answers to our most heartfelt prayers.
We were a little older when we got married, and both knew we didn’t want to wait too long before starting our family. But with in the 1st year of marriage I started having some health problems, that some doctors thought would work themselves out if we got pregnant.
So, we began trying after 5 months of marriage. And nothing… and the health problems became worse. Because of this, pregnancy was put on hold until I got well. It was a few years later before we started trying again.
Anyone who has experienced any form of infertility can tell you how long a month can feel when you are trying to get pregnant. And we tried for twelve months before feeling totally helpless.
It was at this point that we began working with infertility specialists. A year later, after many tests and procedures for both of us, the final diagnosis was that there was no way that we could ever have biological children. This is when we started our adoption journey. We got our first son 6 months later (miracle!) and our 2nd son 2 months ago (another miracle!).
Our oldest is Jonathan. He will be 4 years old soon. We adopted him when he was a newborn. He has been the happiest, sweetest, easiest baby and child anyone could ever have. When I say easy I mean he almost never cried, never spit up, never drooled, slept like a champ, never got into anything (I don’t even know what baby proofing is, because we didn’t need it with him), so friendly, and loves everyone. He is silly and playful and loves to tease and be teased. He is a light that could brighten the darkest day! His smile will melt your heart. And he is genuinely kind! He is always wanting to do little acts of service for our friends and neighbors.

Our youngest son is Alexander. He is an amazingly happy 10-month-old! He was placed with us when he was almost 7 months old. He has been nothing but a joy for us all! Happy, happy, happy would be the best way to describe him. Always smiling! Most of our family and friends have never heard him cry in the 3 months that we have had him. He loves books, and getting his diaper changed, and bath time! His adoption is not final until September. And I could NOT be any luckier! You know that meme that says
“I just want someone to look at me the way my dog looks at pizza.”
Or
“…the way my brother looks and ketchup.”
Well that is the way Alexander looks at me! What a special little boy, and what a journey he had to go on to be able to find us.

Some things that we like to do as a family are camping + hiking + watch movies + bake cookies + go to farmer’s markets + ride bikes + spend time with grandparents + read + snowboard + play + play + play! There is always lots of playing going on when you are surrounded by “Three Awesome Boys!” One day last month we were eating breakfast and Jonathan looked around at everyone and said “Mom, you have 3 awesome boys, don’t you?”
YES I definitely do!
Well, that’s a little bit about me! Feel free to introduce yourselves to me in the comments! I know we will be great friends!
Thank you my lovely friends!
